JEJU FORUM for Peace and Prosperity 2013 “New Waves in Asia”
Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity, originally begun as Jeju Peace Forum in 2001, is one of Asia’s multilateral dialogue processes to promote common peace and prosperity in the region.
Jeju Peace Institute, established in 2006, has successfully organized the Forums since 2007. Jeju Peace Institute makes every effort to develop the Forum as one of Asia’s most comprehensive international forums where political, business, cultural and academic leaders gather together in Jeju, ‘Island of World Peace’ to exchange opinions and to discuss ideas of international cooperation for community-building and world peace.
Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity 2013 will be held from 29 to 31 May 2013 under the theme of ‘New Waves in Asia’, hosted by Jeju Special Self-Governing Province with International Peace Foundation, East Asia Foundation and The JoongAng Ilbo.
In 2013, many world leaders will be changed and a new global leadership is expected to result. The political and economic position of East Asian countries and their international role have been growing. The interest and concern about the new order of the region and the necessity for mutual understanding have strengthened. Experiencing the international financial crisis, many industrialized countries of the world recently identified economic recession as one of the major concerns and the responses of the governments and financial institutions have become important issues internationally. Policymakers and scholars believe that international cooperation in order to overcome the crisis is required now more than ever.
Considering these changes as ‘New Waves’, Jeju Forum 2013 will analyze and evaluate the current international situation and the political and economic trends and paradigms in Asia and thereby draw common action plans to cope with these challenges. To this end, many experts of various fields including peace, security, business, environment, culture, gender, science and technology will be invited to present their opinions.
Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity 2013 will include various key agendas: ‘In Search of Cooperative Leadership’, ‘Common Prosperity beyond Crisis: from Turbulence to Excellence’, ‘Natural Environment and Human Well-being’, ‘Cultural Exchange and Global Cooperation’, and ‘Vision for the Future of Jeju’, to name only a few.
I would like to cordially invite your interest and participation in Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity 2013 to be held in May, the most beautiful season of Jeju.
Chairman, Executive Committee of Jeju Forum
President Jeju Peace Institute
